ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
The use of digital tools for information and communication is increasing in health care systems. Evidence within maternity care on health promotion and prevention when digital tools are applied is sparse. To prevent digital tools from increasing inequality in health, knowledge about pregnant non-app users is needed.
OBJECTIVES:
The study objective is twofold: 1) Who are the pregnant women not using a pregnancy-app offered by the public hospital? 2) Why do women not use the digital pregnancy information service (Emento-app) offered by a Danish public hospital? And how do they describe information needs and experiences with healthcare professionals?
METHODS:
The study is a mixed-method study and consists of 1) a descriptive study of pregnant non-users of the Emento app. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% Confidence intervals for possible associations between specific variables and the use of Emento app will be presented. 2) a qualitative interview study including 22 women purposively sampled to ensure diversity in, e.g., parity, ethnicity, level of education, connection to antenatal care sub-areas. Data were transcribed verbatim and analysed with the method of reflective codebook analysis.
RESULTS:
(preliminary qualitative results): From 01.11.2024 to 31.04.2025, the non-user group consisted of 176 women, and the middle to highly engaged user group consisted of 1050 women. Various sources met women’s information needs and the quality of women’s interactions with healthcare professionals influenced how information needs were met.
