ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
The aim of this initiative is to strengthen student midwife engagement between universities by establishing a national network of midwifery societies. Spearheaded by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), the Midwifery Society (MidSoc) Network was launched to promote peer networking, foster community, and support professional identity development amongst student midwives across the UK.

DISCUSSION:
The RCM co-created a network that connects student societies, encourages collaborative events, and addresses structural challenges such as society handovers. This was achieved through nationwide consultations and student-led input. The MidSoc Network emerged in response to persistent post-pandemic challenges—particularly students’ feelings of isolation and detachment from the profession. Central to its design were accessible resources, a user-friendly joining process, and a digital infrastructure including an interactive map and consistent branding to create visibility and a sense of belonging.

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
The project was shaped by feedback from student consultations, which revealed widespread struggles to sustain engagement both within and between societies. Early signs of success include strong uptake, active social media participation, and high attendance at virtual events like the inaugural online welcome meeting during the UK’s Student Celebration Day. These gatherings allowed societies to exchange experiences, build connections, and inspire each other through shared practice. Launching a category dedicated to student Midwifery societies at the RCM's annual award ceremony will recognise and celebrate their achievements, helping student midwife members to feel valued, with the aim to inspire growth of the network.

KEY MESSAGE:
Providing Midwifery Societies with a student-driven, well-resourced network is playing a transformative role in rebuilding community and identity among student midwives. By creating simple tools, fostering continuous engagement, and empowering student leadership, midwifery associations can create lasting infrastructure to support future professionals.
