ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
The diversity of family lifestyles in Germany is increasingly being recognised. Rainbow families, defined as those with at least one LGBTIQ* parent, represent a segment of this diversity. A plethora of studies have indicated that members of the LGBTIQ* community encounter distinctive obstacles in the healthcare sector, including instances of discrimination. Research into midwifery practices involving rainbow families in Germany is currently limited.

OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this study is to analyse the experiences and requirements of rainbow family parents in the context of midwifery care.

METHODS:
A total of 11 narrative interviews were conducted with parents from rainbow families. The empirical data was analysed using qualitative content analysis according to Kuckartz in order to identify central themes, needs and subjective experiences in regard to midwifery care. The study was approved by the HAWK Ethics Committee (HAWK-2024-02).

RESULTS:
The study indicates that LGBTIQ* parents have a mixed experience of midwifery care, reporting both positive and negative aspects. It is imperative that professionals demonstrate an open and respectful attitude, using inclusive language, and possess a comprehensive understanding of the diverse family structures that exist in society. Midwives who have a fundamental understanding of queer* realities have the potential to enhance the perceived quality of midwifery care for this specific group.

CONCLUSIONS:
In order to improve the quality of care for rainbow family parents, it is imperative to implement further training for midwives that is sensitive to queer* issues and to embed queer*-sensitive family care in midwifery studies.

KEY MESSAGE:
The sensitisation of midwives and other healthcare professionals is pivotal in cultivating a professionally embedded understanding of diversity, thereby ensuring inclusive and needs-based care. Poster session 4 (Group B)
