ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
This model aims to provide holistic, community-based care for pregnant and postpartum women, enhancing the well-being of both mothers and infants.
DISCUSSION:
Since January 2025, the Taoyuan City Midwives Association has operated the Maternal Care Center with the support of the Maternal and Child Development Bureau, pioneering a holistic and community-driven approach to maternal and infant health in Taiwan. In just six months, the center has reached 852 mothers and families, providing over 730 telephone consultations, 70 in-person assessments, 48 home visits, and nine childbirth education sessions—demonstrating robust community engagement and meaningful improvements in access to care.
EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
Staffed by experienced midwives and nurses, the center delivers integrated support encompassing clinical care, educational initiatives, psychological counseling, and resource coordination. Special attention is given to high-risk groups, including teenage mothers, families lacking prenatal care, and those facing mental health or economic challenges, through interdisciplinary case management and coordinated home visits.
KEY MESSAGE:
The center’s success rests on its innovative model of cross-sector collaboration and its commitment to tailored, family-centered service. By integrating resources and fostering seamless teamwork, the program ensures that every pregnant woman receives dignified, continuous, and responsive care—setting a new standard for maternal health services in the region.
