ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
The global increase in caesarean sections has led to earlier discharges, and mothers benefit less from hospital care. Post-caesarean mothers often receive inadequate and inconsistent home care education. This gap mainly results from the absence of standardized home care guidelines. These issues have driven the development of a dedicated home care guide for post-CS mothers

OBJECTIVES:
To assess the effectiveness of the post-caesarean home care guide in increasing knowledge of home care after hospital discharge among nurse midwives in central Tanzania

METHODS:
This quasi-experimental study involved 126 nurse midwives working in the maternity unit of Dodoma and Singida regional hospitals. Both participants were assessed for their level of knowledge on home care before and after exposure to the intervention. The intervention exposed nurse midwives to a developed home care guide through presentation and discussion. The guide included the following items: nutrition, wound care, exercise, hygiene, family planning, postnatal service utilization, sexual activities, and mental health care. SPSS Version 27 was used in data analysis

RESULTS:
The mean knowledge score increased from 20.29 (±4.036) before the intervention to 24.59 (SD ±3.338) after the intervention. The difference is statistically significant. Comparing the mean scores, the intervention has a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.26). After the intervention, the proportion of nurse midwives with adequate knowledge rose from 47.6% to 95.6%. With the intervention constant, no other factor contributed to the change.

CONCLUSIONS:
Nurse midwives' knowledge of home care after caesarean section is generally low. Exposing the nurse midwives to the developed home care guide helps increase their understanding.

KEY MESSAGE:
Updating nurse midwives on home care after hospital discharge will help provide uniform home care education that will help mothers have safe recovery, especially in this era where the caesarean section rate is high and mothers benefit less from hospital care Poster session 3 (Group B)
