ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Being a first-time parent is difficult and defining support needs can be a challenge (Sæther et al., 2024). Paternal involvement strengthens family ties and provides a healthy, supportive environment for the mother and her newborn. Home visiting facilitates a relationship of trust between parents and the nurse-midwives, and promote strategies that encourage the active participation of fathers throughout the transition to parenthood. (Solberg et al., 2022).

OBJECTIVES:
To Identify home visits during the postpartum period as an intervention that promotes the involvement of first-time fathers in the transition to parenthood.

METHODS:
exploratory-descriptive study, with a non-probabilistic snowball sample of 70 first-time fathers. After receiving approval from the Ethics Committee, data was collected using an online questionnaire. The results were analyzed using the SPSS version 27 program.

RESULTS:
The main results were that the father figure's main difficulties were in managing sleep, relieving colic of the newborn, maternal support and caring for the newborn and that the participants considered the postpartum home visit to be a facilitator of father´s involvement in their transition to parenthood.

CONCLUSIONS:
The Nurse-Midwives intervention in the postpartum period can improve parenting practices; it can strengthen the link to the healthcare system and at the same time promote the bond between the mother, the newborn and the father.

KEY MESSAGE:
