ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
To promote access to reading research studies, stimulate interest in research methods and application of the findings to midwifery, we developed the Friday Read. The Friday Read involves the selection of one (open-access) research study emailed each Friday to student midwives and clinical midwives through a research interest network across one region in England. The study selected is summarised in relation to the findings and application to midwifery in 150 words maximum. A summary of one key learning point of the method is included. For example, a discussion of the importance of blinding in a randomised controlled trial. The summary is easy to follow in a few minutes to encourage reading, and access of the full paper. Topics selected are contemporary and different research methods are used to enable a wide range of key principles of research methods to be highlighted. The studies are also selected to support student learning if studying a research methods module

DISCUSSION:
There is a fundamental need to increase capacity in knowledge, skills and confidence in understanding research methods in the midwifery workforce. Being able to recognise the impact of research in defining problems, planning solutions, developing new knowledge and application to practice is essential to improve care and outcomes for mothers and families. Having skills in reading research, discerning the quality of the method used in execution of the study, along with interpretation of the findings and relevance to midwifery practice are critical skills for all midwives.

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
Developing these skills involves commitment (Palmer et al 2023). Reading research and considering methods used takes time, and often only initiated when a particular challenge arises.

KEY MESSAGE:
Feedback is very positive indicating that Friday Reads are important and have the potential to develop research interest that underpins development of research capacity. A formal evaluation is planned Autumn 2025. Poster session 3 (Group B)
