ABSTRACT
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
To strengthen midwives' clinical skills and knowledge in breastfeeding and lactation support, enabling them to: Demonstrate practical skills to support the effective initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. Assess breastfeeding techniques using standardized tools such as the LATCH scoring system. demonstrate correct positioning and attachment techniques Perform hand expression of breast milk and counsel mothers on appropriate breastmilk storage and handling practices. Identify and manage common breastfeeding challenges—including cracked nipples, breast engorgement, low milk supply, and flat or inverted nipples—through evidence-based counseling and support.

THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
Activity 1: Introduction and Large Group Discussion (15 minutes) Participants will brainstorm the importance, cultural beliefs, barriers, and facilitators related to breastfeeding, as well as common breastfeeding issues and challenges. Participants will think, pair with their partner, and share their points using Mentimeter. Activity 2: Demonstration Session (10 minutes) Facilitators demonstrate proper latch, positioning, and attachment on wearable simulation breast models and newborn baby mannequins. Activity 3: Hands-On Practice Stations (60 minutes) Participants rotate through different skill stations (15 minutes each station), practicing under instructor supervision: Station 1: Assessing breastfeeding technique using the LATCH score. Station 2: Practicing correct positioning and attachment on simulation models. Station 3: Performing hand expression techniques and counseling mothers on appropriate breastmilk storage. Station 4: Counseling practice—role-plays focusing on identifying and managing common breastfeeding challenges—including cracked nipples, breast engorgement, low milk supply, and flat or inverted nipples. Activity 4: Closing and Evaluation (5 minutes) Summarize key takeaways and complete session evaluation forms.
