ABSTRACT
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Increase participants' confidence with academic writing, particularly participants from low to middle-income countries who face challenges with publishing.
2. Provide strategies for participants to increase their frequency of writing
3. Provide guidance on choosing a peer-reviewed journal
4. Provide guidance on following authors' guidelines
5. Practice constructing the framework of a paper for publication
6. Practice writing an abstract
7. Peer review and feedback of the written structured abstract.
8. Provide guidance on managing common barriers to academic writing and publishing
THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
0-30 Minutes: activity - Overview of writing for publication, including the following:
1. Choosing a journal
2. Author's guidelines
3. How to construct sentences, paragraphs, and sections for a paper for publication,
4. How to write an abstract.
5. What happens when you submit a paper for publication, the peer review process
30-60 Minutes: activity practicing writing:
1. Producing an outline of a planned paper for publication,
2. Peer review and feedback of the publication outline
3. Writing time,
Final 10 minutes- Wrap up and next steps
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:
The workshop participation will include practicing the following activities:
1. Choosing a journal to submit an article for publication
2. Following the author guidelines
3. Constructing the outline of a paper for publication
4. Writing a structured abstract
5. Providing peer review with a buddy
