ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
The MSc in Obstetric and Midwifery Care was initially introduced in 2014 by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with biennial student intakes. Over the past decade (2014–2024), five cohorts have successfully graduated from the programme. This presentation highlights how ongoing reviews have identified the programme’s strengths and areas for improvement, leading to targeted enhancements.

DISCUSSION:
The MSc programme comprises six core courses and one elective. At the end of each course, students provided feedback and rated their learning experience. Proposed modifications are based on student evaluations and observations by the programme director, assessing both instructor-student interactions and teaching quality.

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
Since its inception, the programme has undergone continuous improvements. In response to evolving midwifery competencies, one of the core courses—Advanced Midwifery Practice—was expanded in 2020 into three specialized modules: Critical Care in Obstetrics, Obstetrical Ultrasound and Clinical Pharmacology in Obstetrics. Additionally, to better prepare midwives for leadership roles, another core course, the Clinical Leadership in Midwifery was enriched, with contact hours increasing from 39 to 58.5 starting in 2022. The key strengths of the programme which were highly valued by students remain unchanged. These include organizing overseas maternity service visits for each cohort and maintaining close communication between the programme director and students via WhatsApp for instant feedback and clarification. Student course ratings have consistently ranged between 4.1 and 5 out of 6, aligning with the faculty’s average scores. Intake numbers from 2014 to 2022 were 24, 12, 7, 25, and 28, respectively. The rebound in enrollment reflects the programme’s successful restructuring and its ability to inspire students to pursue advanced studies.

KEY MESSAGE:
Regular review and refinement of the programme are essential to maintaining high standards. Future enhancements should align with emerging trends in midwifery practice to ensure continued relevance and excellence. Education - postgraduate (including three-minute presentation competition)
