ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
To present an overview of the Reimagination Project- (2022-2025) which aimed to strengthen organizational capacity across the midwifery profession. Facilitated by a partnership with the A.C.N.M. Foundation in collaboration with the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the effort employed a two-phased approach, focused on enhancing interorganizational collaboration, improving financial efficiency, and advancing resource mobilization and fundraising.
DISCUSSION:
The Reimagination Project was designed as capacity-building initiative co-led by The A.C.N.M. Foundation (the Foundation), in collaboration with the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). Its overarching aim was to build long-term sustainability and strength within the midwifery profession by strengthening the relationship between the two organizations. It has since expanded to diverse strategic alliances with mission-aligned organizations, such as the American Midwifery Certification Board and the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education. This poster will outline the main strategies, activities, and successes of the project, and include challenges, lessons learned, and insights. Presenters will briefly explain Reimagination Project, Part III (2025-2027) which will focus on best practices for collaborative financial operations, actions to advance strategic priorities, increasing the global midwifery community’s access to Foundation grants and programs and an initiative centered around midwife association member engagement called “Listen to Midwives.”
EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
highlights of the accomplishments include a rigorous review and revision of all interorganizational documents, substantial resource development, enhanced leadership proficiency training, and strengthened ability of both organizations to effectively advocate at the policy level.
KEY MESSAGE:
to achieve the global goal of “one million more midwives”, we must not only grow the workforce but also strengthen the midwifery profession’s organizational capacity to influence policy, support education, and ensure quality practice and continuing competency, all of which lay the foundation for equitable maternal-newborn health. The project models a successful approach for realizing this objective through strengthening midwifery organizations.
