ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
The work environment of obstetric professionals is characterized by high levels of stress, intense emotional demands, and pressured decision-making, which can negatively affect their physical and psychological well-being, as well as the quality of care provided. This study presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a mindfulness program specifically tailored to the needs of obstetric staff (midwives, nurses, and clinical assistants).
OBJECTIVES:
Evaluate the implementation of the program related to professionals' stress levels and ability to manage difficult situations.
METHODS:
Descriptive mixed study with the implementation of an 8-week program with one 90-minute weekly session and evaluation through semi-structured interviews conducted ad hoc.
RESULTS:
Preliminary results obtained from a sample of 36 professionals who completed the program showed a significant reduction in perceived stress levels and symptoms of emotional burnout, as well as an improvement in mindfulness and work environment. Participants reported a greater ability to manage difficult situations, improved communication with patients and team members, and a renewed sense of purpose in their work.
CONCLUSIONS:
Incorporating a mindfulness program into obstetric settings can be an effective and sustainable strategy for improving the well-being of professionals and, potentially, the quality of care.
KEY MESSAGE:
Mindfulness is an effective tool for professionals
