ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
The Ministry of health guideline for management of preeclampsia and eclampsia has been in use in Kenya since 2012. Though previous studies in Kenya have shown poor utilization of the guideline among the health providers.

OBJECTIVES:
The main objective of this study was to assess the factors influencing utilization of ministry of health guideline among nurses in the management of preeclampsia and eclampsia in public health facilities Migori County, Kenya. The specific objective was to determine the level of adherence of Ministry of health guideline in the management preeclampsia and eclampsia among the nurses working in public health facilities Migori County.

METHODS:
The study was carried out public health facilities in Migori County of Kenya. A descriptive cross -sectional research design was used . 71 Nurses were selected through random sampling to participate in the study. Purposive sampling technique was used in the selection of the public facilities and in the patients’ records audit. Data collection was done through a self-administered questionnaire, also check lists were used to conduct both facility assessment and in the audit of the patients’ records, a focus group discussion was done. Ethical approval was sort from Mount Kenya University, the National Council for Science Technology and Innovation and the Migori County Health Council.

RESULTS:
Male respondents were 16.9%, female 83.1% the age ranged between 25-58 years. The length of time one worked in a unit had a significant value of p (0.001). Adherence level to the guideline was at 30 % ,though about of 97.1% of the respondents had self-reported using the guideline. The comprehensive knowledge of the nurse on the guideline was poor and had a significant value of p (0.000).

CONCLUSIONS:
Majority of the respondents ’adherence to the guideline was poor. Most of the health facilities did not have the guideline.
