ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
The University of Florida Obstetrics & Gynecology Mobile Outreach Clinic (MOC) is a community-based model of care that delivers essential perinatal and reproductive health services directly to patients across North Central Florida. Designed as a midwifery-led, multidisciplinary initiative, the MOC increases access to care by meeting individuals in their neighborhoods. The MOC operates from a fully equipped, converted recreational vehicle, offering free, comprehensive services in a mobile format. Care is delivered by a team of certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physicians, doulas, case managers, allied health professionals, and community health workers. Services include prenatal and postpartum checkups, contraceptive counseling, colposcopy, well-woman and clinical breast exams, ultrasound, and health education. The mobile setting eliminates logistical barriers and provides a trusted, convenient environment that fosters engagement and enhances health literacy. Individuals receive consistent, respectful care in a non-institutional space designed to support comfort and participation. This model illustrates how midwifery-led outreach can improve outcomes and continuity of care across the entire reproductive health spectrum. By supporting healthier pregnancies, postpartum transitions, and long-term wellness, the MOC facilitates more effective healthcare delivery across different settings. The MOC offers a scalable and adaptable framework that can be implemented in both rural and urban areas. It highlights the role of midwives as key leaders in expanding healthcare access through innovative service delivery methods that prioritize flexibility, continuity, and responsiveness. Through this approach, the MOC not only advances effective, community-integrated models of care aligned with modern healthcare delivery goals but also reinforces and expands the midwifery model as a central framework for delivering high-quality, comprehensive reproductive and perinatal services in diverse care settings.
