ABSTRACT
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of the session, participants will have developed confidence and practical competencies to handle critical obstetric and neonatal situations in both hospital and out-of-hospital settings, empowering them to provide life-saving care in any circumstance, and be equipped to adapt this training model to their own professional environments.

THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
This 90-minute hands-on workshop, offered by the Professional Association for Assisted Home Birth (APAAD) in France, equips midwives and midwifery students with essential skills to manage obstetric and neonatal emergencies in out-of-hospital settings. Using advanced simulators such as MamaBirthie and MamaNatalie, participants will engage in realistic simulations of high-risk situations such as shoulder dystocia, breech birth, postpartum hemorrhage, and neonatal resuscitation in small groups for an immersive and practical learning experience. The session will be conducted in both English and French. It opens with an introduction explaining how the training was developed and adapted to the French context and legal framework. This process is shared to encourage participants to replicate and tailor the model in their own countries, promoting professional empowerment and international knowledge sharing.

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:
This training is particularly relevant for midwives practicing in out-of-hospital or low-resource settings, including in emerging countries, where rapid, skilled responses to emergencies are essential. Additional reading Based on the APAAD training manual.
