ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Midwives work in sensitive life phases and are well positioned to act as change agents for planetary health by promoting a just, healthy, and sustainable society among young families. To realise this potential, planetary health literacy (PHL) must be meaningfully integrated into midwifery education and training (WBGU, 2023).

OBJECTIVES:
The 'HebPlanet'-project aims to integrate Planetary Health Education (PHE) and PHL into midwifery curricula through a co-creative, participatory approach involving PHE experts and midwifery students, educators, and practitioners (DBU, https://www.dbu.de/projektdatenbank/39872-01/).

METHODS:
The curriculum development follows a design-based educational research approach (Lokmic-Tomkins et al., 2024), beginning with a comprehensive curricular needs assessment using a mixed-methods-approach: A Document analysis of all available midwifery module handbooks in Germany to identify existing PHE content, an online survey among midwifery students to assess current PHE-teaching and interests, and expert interviews with midwifery educators and practitioners. Based on these findings, a co-design workshop was conducted.

RESULTS:
The document analysis of PHE- and PHL-integration in midwifery curricula revealed that no programmes explicitly addressed PHL. The curriculum needs assessment demonstrated high interest and relevance of the stakeholders to design and implement a longitudinal PH-curriculum. Expert interviews addressed local barriers and possible adaptations. The co-creative workshop served as a real-laboratory space for creative and innovative PH curriculum design.

CONCLUSIONS:
The ICM presentation will share best-practice-examples, reflect on methodological challenges in needs assessment, conceptualisation and curriculum development, and offer guidance for midwifery programmes seeking to develop their own PHE curriculum.

KEY MESSAGE:
To unlock the full potential of midwives as planetary health change agents, foundational integration of PHE and PHL in midwifery education is essential. The authors declare no conflicts of interest. The project is funded by the DBU (German Federal Environmental Foundation). The Clinical Ethics Committee of the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz had no reservations about the project. Poster session 4 (Group B)
