ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
To share the co-produced initiative of the Maternal Reducing Inequalities Care Bundle (MRICB), designed to tackle persistent maternal health disparities in London through co-production with service users, subject matter experts and frontline providers.
DISCUSSION:
Our collaborative process engaged over 74 stakeholders—midwives, clinicians, maternity navigators (MNVPs), academics, EDI leads, translators, community advocates, and service users—to co-produce four equity-centered interventions:Interpretation & translation: Improving access to care, Vitamin D supplementation pathway, Reduced fetal movements.
Grounded in rights-based, decolonial frameworks, and informed by the COM-B model of behaviour change, we built a Theory of Change informed by scholarly evidence and local insights. This presentation will discuss:
Co-design methodology: Hybrid workshops, surveys, digital storyboard creation
Engagement successes & challenges: Building trust, addressing digital exclusion, balancing trauma-informed care
Implementation design: Interactive videos (AI-aided), multilingual posters for clinical/community settings
Early pilot activities: Roll-out strategies, clinician engagement, feedback mechanisms
EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
While final outcome data are pending, the process is supported by key interim indicators:
Engagement: 74+ participants across sectors with 92% retention
Co-designed framework and materials: Four toolkits and digital resources evaluated by target users for clarity and cultural relevance
Evidence-informed design: Each intervention was developed following targeted literature reviews, service user focus groups, and expert input—ensuring alignment with both national guidance and community-identified priorities
KEY MESSAGE:
Co-producing an equity-focused care pathway with affected communities enables culturally responsive maternal care. The MRICB offers a replicable model of how participatory design and early engagement can reduce maternal inequalities in high-income urban settings. This project provides practical insights and tools for midwives, maternity settings and service designers worldwide.
