ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
To present our work supporting to climate displaced people during floods in May 2024 in Porto Alegre Brazil. From early May to end of July, big part of the city was flooded. About 15.000 people from vulnerable area were displaced to 153 shelters. The flooding covered the city since beginning of May and middle June. Was necessary about several months to back home. All city became facing a humanitarian condition, including disrupted ways to get or leave city.
DISCUSSION:
This discussion focused on the climate emergency as a central issue connected to reproductive health to women and transgender people. During this period midwives, nursing students, nurses and academics on health education were focused on to detect the reproductive needs of this population. The main detected points of attention were: to identify among several shelter pregnant women and trans people, post-partum person with or without a babies, person who may were suffering sexual abuse into the shelters, person who was necessary to offer any contraceptive method, person with menstrual health issues, person with abortion need of care trans people with harmonizing needs and specific attention on shelter to avoid transphobia, prejudice and discrimination.
EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
To relate to other professionals, health services or voluntaries, was central to implement a better response during this period. The climate change should make communities resilient. And we highlight our learning as a community of midwives, health students, local health managers, academics in health education, social sciences and anthropology, justice, other professionals and voluntaries. This was also recognizes as a model o cmunity care
KEY MESSAGE:
Is crucial to consider in public policies of response for extreme climate events that the girls, woman and transgender people are the most impacted regarding to implement better protocols considering their specific needs in terms both in cultural phisycal ans social context.
