ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
In this example of an education initiative, first year student midwives take part in a bespoke practical multi station workshop in the anatomy centre at their University. Using flipped classroom pedagogical principles, students are guided through stations featuring prepared human anatomical pro-sections of specific regions and structures of the female body. The practical mirrors the content of the anatomy and physiology lectures the students have already received. A workbook has been designed by Midwifery lecturers in collaboration with Biosciences lecturers to support the workshop. Student Midwives work in groups, rotating through the workstations and using the pro-sections and their knowledge to answer the questions in the workbook.

DISCUSSION:
Understanding anatomy and physiology can be challenging for student midwives (Johnson et al 2015), Hashemiparast (2019) identifies the need for a link between theory, simulation and real life for learning to be truly embedded. Learning that involves human anatomical pro-section allows student midwives to better understand the integrated nature of the human body and see beyond the theory, textbooks, apps, and websites to appreciate the complexities and capabilities of the human body. This enables student midwives to have confidence in the both normal birth and the detection of complications (ICM 2023). This practical learning experience helps to create a foundation and lifelong knowledge which will equip future midwives to be autonomous practitioners and strengthen their confidence as the lead professional in the care of mothers and babies.

KEY MESSAGE:
In order to ensure the future Midwives that are skilled, knowledgeable and competent, midwifery lecturers need to be creative in the way they deliver programmes of education to suit all styles of learners. Schools of Midwifery may have access to resources included in anatomy centres but need ideas on how to meaningfully include human anatomical pro sections into to the Midwifery curriculum.
