ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
To highlight the life-saving impact of timely, quality maternal health services, coupled with community engagement through the Group Antenatal Care (GANC) model and targeted facility support in improving maternal and newborn outcomes in Banke District, Lumbini Province of Nepal.

DISCUSSION:
Community efforts, including GANC, counseling, and referrals, combined with improved facilities, have enhanced maternal and newborn health. Trained staff and informed families strengthened trust in local services, increasing partner involvement in ANC visits from 69.7% to 100%. Health workers also chose these services, reflecting strong community confidence. The percentage of women reporting increased knowledge and awareness of quality maternal and newborn health services rose from 61% to 80%.

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
1.The cases of Rabi Mahiyaar and Fulan Devi highlight effective coordination between field-level awareness activities and referral centers. Rabi, identified with eclampsia during a GANC session, was urgently referred to Bheri Hospital for a life-saving cesarean. Fulan, with a past pregnancy loss due to eclampsia, overcame her fear through regular GANC participation and safely delivered a healthy baby 2.Facility upgrades in five birthing centers included baby warmers, Dopplers, delivery beds, and autoclaves, with staff trained in E-MOTIVE and Anti-Shock Garment use. These improvements increased client trust and institutional deliveries. By project end, awareness of quality maternal and newborn services among ANC/PNC women rose from 88% to 98%. 3.Ms. Pabi Khadka, a nurse at Puraini Birthing Center, chose to deliver her baby to her workplace, showing trust in the facility. Supported by Lutheran World Relief, the center was well-equipped with improved infrastructure and equipment. Her choice helped build confidence and encouraged other women in the community to seek care at the birthing center.

KEY MESSAGE:
