ABSTRACT
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Shaping futures for teenagers by midwives, is a product responding to Ugandan challenge of teenage pregnancy which is more than 27%. Workshop for teenagers program was created to build a confident teenager in sexual and reproductive health decisions that also enhance their mental wellbeing. Priority areas of training include comprehensive sexual education like safe sex practices, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, reproductive rights, drug and substance abuse, adolescent mental wellbeing, roles and responsibilities of a teenager with respect.
THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
Workshops for teenagers are a common format for personal development, but they are not consistently a feature of training in many settings. This initiative has created the opportunity to enable teenagers get trained within days workshop curriculum during holidays and visiting schools that fosters meaningful peer engagement and shared-learning about sexuality in relation to physical and Psycho-social development t. Workshop format combines scenario-based learning, facilitation and group discussions with materials from the Ministry of Health and Education of Uganda. A key element of the workshops is also to enable the voices of teenagers through storytelling.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:
Holiday workshops on sexual, mental and reproductive health serve as vital tools for enhancing overall adolescent health. They address key aspects of well-being, empower youth with knowledge, and contribute to healthier societies by promoting informed decision-making and early intervention. These workshops are not only preventive but also transformative, offering young people the resources to build healthier futures. These workshops may reduce public health burdens through preventing issues like teenage pregnancy, mental health disorders, STIs mentioned but a few and this will be done through conducting research studies to influence evidence based health policies. They also reduce long-term healthcare costs and the strain on health systems, particularly in regions where healthcare resources are limited through empowering teenagers to be responsible for their health.
