ABSTRACT
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
This skills-based workshop introduces Pelvic Wisdom—a prenatal yoga framework integrating biomechanics, embodied awareness, and Indonesian traditions. Designed for midwives and birth professionals, this 60-minute session empowers participants with tools to support laboring mothers through mindful movement, breathwork, and respectful, culturally grounded care. By the end of the session, participants will be able to explain how pelvic biomechanics affect fetal positioning and labor progress; apply the “SPACE” formula (Stability, Postural Alignment, Awareness of Breath, Creating Space, Empowerment through Adaptation), and practice supportive yoga poses that creatively integrate local wisdom with modified everyday props.
THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
Participants will learn how to use chairs, birthing balls, and traditional Indonesian cloths such as “jarik” not just as physical supports, but as tools for reconnecting the body with ancestral traditions. Each pose is enhanced with sensory elements—such as the calming scent of frangipani—to deepen relaxation and embodied awareness, creating a holistic experience that nurtures physical, emotional, and spiritual preparation for birth. The workshop will also explore how local maternal wisdom—such as batik symbolism (e.g., Truntum, Sido Mukti), mitoni rituals, melukat, and the use of frangipani scent can be integrated into prenatal care as embodied affirmations and sources of intergenerational strength.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:
Participants will engage in guided movement, case-based discussion (e.g., occiput posterior, PROM), and peer reflection on culturally sensitive care. Prenatal yoga is presented not only as a therapeutic modality but as an educational tool to reduce fear, support optimal fetal positioning, and rebuild trust in the maternal body.
