ABSTRACT
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Determination of clinical urgency is a skill required by midwives when women present unscheduled to a health service with a problem. Obstetric triage is a formal process increasingly recognized as necessary in the setting of maternity care to enhance recognition of clinical urgency to improve maternal and perinatal outcomes. 1. Outline the role of obstetric triage across a range of resource settings and clinical areas. 2. Discuss the obstetric triage tools available for use in practice. 3. Apply obstetric triage tools for common unscheduled presentations made by women.

THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
The workshop will begin with a brief overview of the concept of obstetric triage and the range of tools that have been developed and tested globally. The main component of the workshop will be three workstations where the presenters will workshop with participants on how to conduct obstetric triage and determine clinical urgency with a range of conditions that women may present with, and using a variety of tools.

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:
Three workstations, which participants will rotate to each through the workshop. Active participation through the use of role plays and case study applications, including 1) early pregnancy presentations, 2) late pregnancy presentations, 3) recognition of clinical urgency - red flags.
