ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
India has made notable progress in reducing maternal and newborn mortality. However, gaps in quality of care persist, often due to gaps in sexual reproductive healthcare professionals’ (SRHPs) knowledge and skills, as well as limited access to latest national evidence-based clinical guidelines (Sodha et al., 2022). Digital tools are increasingly recognised for their potential to improve learning outcomes among SRHPs. (Armour et al., 2025).  The Safe Delivery App (SDA), developed by Maternity Foundation, offers evidence-based guidance for managing childbirth and related emergencies and is tailored to support nurses and midwives.

DISCUSSION:
In 2017, a version of SDA aligned with Indian clinical protocols was launched. Recognizing the value of SDA as a self-directed learning and reference tool, the Indian Nursing Council integrated it into both the Nurse Practitioner in Midwifery and B Sc Nursing curricula, giving all educators and students access to the national maternal and newborn protocols communicated in a concise manner (Sodha et al., 2022). A study showed significant improvement in knowledge of key maternal and newborn topics among nursing and midwifery students using SDA (Usmani et al., 2019).

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
From 2021 to 2023, around 2,000 nursing and midwifery students were onboarded annually. In 2024, this number increased to 6,649, as revised curriculum cohorts reached relevant semesters. By mid-2025, SDA had reached over 13,500 students, with more than 6,500 successfully earning the SDA Champion certificate. A usability and feasibility survey among nursing students showed 99% found the app easy to use and clinically relevant, and were motivated to use SDA for both learning and peer support.

KEY MESSAGE:
Integrating SDA into national midwifery and nursing curricula demonstrates how digital tools can effectively strengthen pre-service education. This approach ensures future midwives are equipped with accessible, standardised, and evidence-based clinical guidance key to improving maternal and newborn care outcomes. Poster session 3 (Group B)
