ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Background: The early postpartum period is a critical time for maternal recovery, emotional adjustment, and the establishment of infant bonding and breastfeeding. In Iceland, early discharge from hospital places increased emphasis on midwifery led home care. However, little qualitative research exists on how Icelandic women experience this care.

OBJECTIVES:
Objectives: To explore how mothers in Iceland experience midwifery led home visits after childbirth, with the aim of identifying supportive, insufficient, or missing elements of care that impact maternal wellbeing and adjustment.

METHODS:
Methods: This is a qualitative study informed by interpretive phenomenology. Participants are recruited through purposive sampling and include women who gave birth in the past 6–12 months and received at least one home visit from a midwife within the first 8–10 days postpartum. Semi-structured interviews are being conducted and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke). Participant diversity in age, location, cultural background, and socioeconomic status is ensured to capture a broad range of perspectives.

RESULTS:
Preliminary results: Early interviews indicate that women highly value relational continuity, emotional reassurance, and hands on breastfeeding support. Many feel empowered by the personalized nature of care. Challenges include variability in service availability, unmet informational needs, and gaps in continuity between hospital and community care.

CONCLUSIONS:
Conclusions: Preliminary findings highlight the value of personalized, continuous postpartum care delivered by midwives. These insights may guide service improvements and inform national policy to support maternal health and satisfaction in the postpartum period. Conclusions: Preliminary findings highlight the value of personalized, continuous postpartum care delivered by midwives.
