THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
This workshop introduces the India-adapted WHO ECBC course, delivered through a blended learning approach. The content aligns with the WHO framework for quality maternal and newborn care. Participants will engage in interactive, scenario-based learning through the modules. The WHO country office for India and the Fernandez Foundation led adaptation and implementation in two states, training 79 professional midwives. Results showed improved knowledge of WHO recommendations and enhanced skills for improving maternal and newborn outcomes. The adaptation to India shows how global modules can be tailored to local contexts, encouraging other countries to adapt the course. Activities: • Introduction by the Government of India focal person on the Midwifery model of care in India (10 mins) • Introduce participants to the WHO ECBC Modules (3 mins) • Treasure Hunt: Identify WHO QoC standards 1, 4,5 and 6 (12 mins) • Roleplay: Implement respectful care for women and newborns during the third stage of labor and immediate care at birth using the WHO action plan (17 mins) Participants will enact the roleplay. • Video Analysis: Referring a sick newborn (13 mins) • Introduce POCQI: Identify problem and quality improvement measures.
