ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Low back and pelvic pain are common complaints during pregnancy, often impairing women's daily functioning and quality of life. While pelvic belts are widely used as a conservative intervention, current designs may not offer optimal comfort or coverage.
OBJECTIVES:
To assess the effectiveness of a newly modified pregnancy belt, known as the FINEST Belt, in alleviating low back and pelvic pain in pregnant women.
METHODS:
A quasi-experimental pre-posttest control group design was conducted with 60 pregnant women in South Jakarta. Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group using the FINEST Belt or a control group using standard pregnancy belts. Pain levels were measured before and after a two-week intervention using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests.
RESULTS:
The intervention group reported a significant reduction in pain from a mean VAS score of 3.93 to 0.53 (SD 0.90), while the control group’s mean score decreased from 4.40 to 2.13 (SD 2.56). The difference in pain reduction between groups was statistically significant (p = 0.002).
CONCLUSIONS:
The FINEST Belt proved more effective than standard belts in reducing lower back and pelvic pain in pregnant women. Its improved material and ergonomic design offer greater comfort and support during pregnancy, contributing to better maternal well-being.
