ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
The purpose is to present an experience in the education and professional development of midwives, aligned with the social responsibility of a higher education institution.

DISCUSSION:
The demand for pregnant couples for birth giving and parenthood preparation, as well as the provision of services by health institutions is insufficient to cover the demands. The creation of this centre aimed to contribute to the improvement of health gains of our community by complementing the existing services with a high-quality response to its needs. In this way the project represents an addition to the care available to the local population, in terms of prenatal and postnatal primary care. Also, it aims to improve the quality of training for midwifery students and midwives. By participating in the project and being involved in the educational programs, midwifery students could develop their skills of prenatal and post-natal education in real-life situations. These skills are necessary to be able to have a more independent role and include designing and implementing educational projects using evidence-based practice and develop research.

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
Since 2011, 29 prenatal programs took place, where more than 400 pregnant couples participated, and 10 postnatal programs, were more than 100 participants including babies.

KEY MESSAGE:
This project provides a service that is acknowledged by the community as being useful to the families and having an impact on the well-being and health of the participants. This centre in a higher education institution is innovative. Our experience shows us that it is possible for an educational institution to reorganize itself to provide health care to the population involving academic staff, students and stakeholders. This experience is sustainable and may be replicated in other institutions of midwifery education. Poster session 3 (Group B)
