ABSTRACT
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Interpret and present UK perinatal inequality statistics with clarity and care
- Use participatory techniques to communicate data sensitively
Recognize common pitfalls in presenting inequality statistics and avoid harm
Apply equity-informed teaching practices in their own settings
THE PROCESS/ACTIVITIES:
This interactive workshop begins with short visual prompts introducing key statistics on racial disparities in maternity outcomes, followed by participatory techniques using Liberating Structures. Attendees will practice framing and delivering data content, reflect on the emotional impact of inequality statistics, and explore how to build safer learning environments when teaching sensitive issues.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:
Participants will work in groups to interpret and present one statistic to peers using a chosen teaching strategy (e.g., visualization, questioning, or storytelling). They will receive structured peer feedback and reflect collectively on how emotion, resistance, and power can shape the reception and use of inequality data in midwifery practice or education.
