ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
Background: Labor pain during childbirth can have devastating effects on the progress of labor, mother, and fetus. However, the approach and management of labour pain can contribute significantly to a woman’s overall satisfaction with the birth experience.
Purpose: to evaluate the effectiveness of TENS machine in reducing the childbirth pain as non-pharmacological pain relief.
DISCUSSION:
Results: Total of 100 mothers were involved in this study and showed that they have knowledge about TENS machine and the staff were explained well regarding the use of TENS machine ,However, the mothers reported that they are satisfied with it in regards to the pain relief and in terms of frequency and location of the TENS. Moreover, all the mothers were happy and satisfy with this TENS after being used for labour pain therefore they are highly recommended to be used for relieving labour pain.
EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a non -pharmacological analgesic technique has the same effect of the Entonox gas. This gas is one of the greenhouse gases and has direct effect on the climate changes. (Anne,2021) by Introducing TENS machine for childbirth pain will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Hospital & achieving zero neutrality in line with the priorities of the environment and natural resources in Oman.
KEY MESSAGE:
Conclusion: TENS machine is an effective and acceptable method of pain releife in labour and may be used in place of or alternative to Entonox.
