ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
Objective: The team at the Maternity Home of Siltepec aims to increase, by June 2025, the percentage of laboring women accompanied by a family member from 45% to 75%, and those with freedom of movement from 75% to 90%, as part of a woman-centered care approach tailored to their needs.

DISCUSSION:
Problem Statement: The Maternity Home (Casa Materna) of Siltepec aims to implement a woman-centered labor and delivery care model based on national guidelines and scientific evidence. Currently, only three out of five shifts have trained personnel capable of applying this model. Between January and October 2024, the lowest-performing indicators were the percentage of women accompanied by a family member (45%) and those allowed freedom of movement during labor (73%). Satisfaction surveys confirmed that companion support is a top-priority need. Evidence shows that companionship and freedom of movement during labor improve the birth experience by alleviating pain, increasing safety, and reducing labor duration, resulting in more vaginal births. The team is committed to increasing both indicators by June 2025, thereby enhancing the quality of care and user satisfaction.

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
Method: The problem was identified, followed by the creation of a driver diagram. A prioritization matrix was used to focus on key change ideas: establishing internal policies, training staff and users, and ensuring that trained personnel are present during the lowest-performing shifts. Objectives, indicators, data collection methods, and a PDAS (Plan-Do-Study-Act) worksheet were defined to implement change strategies through meetings with project. Results: During the first quarter of 2025, 85% of laboring women experienced freedom of movement, and 59% had a birth companion present. In June 2025, the strategies used will be reassessed to identify opportunities for further improvement.

KEY MESSAGE:
