ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND:
Respectful maternity care is defined as care that maintains dignity, privacy, and confidentiality of pregnant and birthing women, ensures freedom from harm and mistreatment, and enables informed choice and continuous support during labor and birth When women feel supported, respected, safe, and able to participate in decision-making, they may be more likely to have positive birth experiences.
OBJECTIVES:
This research is aimed to determine levels of respectful maternity care from the point of view of midwives, students, and mothers.
METHODS:
The research is being conducted in two mother-friendly state hospitals in Adana-Türkiye. In this study where midwife, student, and woman interaction is evaluated, the sample consists of students and midwives who provide care to the same woman. Data are collected with Midwives' Knowledge and Practice of Respectful Maternity Care Scale, Students' Perception of Respectful Maternity Care Scale, and Respectful Maternity Care Scale.
RESULTS:
The data collection process of the study is ongoing and the comprehensive analysis research results will be shared in the congress.
CONCLUSIONS:
Respectful maternity care, which focuses on the individual, cultural, and medical needs of women, is vital to improving access to quality maternal healthcare.
KEY MESSAGE:
Students should learn how to maintain patient dignity and respect in their educational processes. Therefore, in order to support the professional development of both current midwives and future midwives, education should be strengthened and evidence-based practices should be encouraged. It is important that midwives take the lead in adopting respectful maternity care, together with evidence-based practices, that will enable the mother and fetus/newborn to experience this process positively. This approach will help improve the health outcomes of both individuals and communities.
