ABSTRACT
PURPOSE:
1. Analyze the expected retirement ages for midwives in Catalonia. 2. Estimate the necessary replacement rates. 3. Facilitate the planning of improvement measures by the four official professional associations.

DISCUSSION:
Justification: In recent years, the shortage of midwives in Catalonia has shown an increasing trend, and this shortage may be exacerbated by a lack of replacement capacity, as labor demand exceeds training in Spain. A study conducted in the province of Tarragona in 2023 revealed that 80% of midwives work in more than one workplace, exceeding the recommended weekly work schedule. Even then, the report indicates that some activities related to sexual and reproductive health have ceased to be carried out, which represents a potential risk to the health of women and their families. Given this situation, the four official provincial nursing professional associations of Catalonia have initiated a joint study to understand the current situation of this group. This will facilitate strategic decision-making aimed at improving the profession and ensuring comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care for the entire population. Methodology: Cross-sectional quantitative demographic analysis using data recorded on registered midwives in July 2025. A descriptive analysis of the data is being conducted using SPSS version 26. Results Preliminary initial data in the province of Girona: Of the 88 midwives, the average age is 43.66 years, with the minimum age being 29. Currently under analysis and results are being developed.

EVIDENCE WHERE RELEVANT:
Conclusions: Identifying the real needs of midwives is necessary to implement policies to improve the profession. Therefore, we will conclude with strategies and planning for achieving improvement.
